Temporary VRU for an Ethanol Storage Tank

A client required a temporary vapor recovery solution for an ethanol storage tank, designed to capture tank-breathing emissions and prevent atmospheric release during operations.

Client: BASF

Duration: 72 hours

Location: Antwerp, Belgium

Results: Zero environmental emissions

The Challenge

A client required a temporary vapor recovery solution for an ethanol storage tank, designed to capture tank-breathing emissions and prevent atmospheric release during operations.

Equipment Deployed

A mobile cryogenic Vapor Recovery Unit (VRU) was installed.

Vapors were directed by a blower to the VRU when tank pressure reached a set threshold.
The unit condensed and captured ethanol vapors, ensuring recovery instead of emission.

Results Achieved

  • Vapors fully recovered, no product loss.
  • Condensate returned to the client for reuse.
  • Compliance achieved with all safety and emission standards.
  • Operation completed in 7.75 hours – safe, flexible, and efficient.
  • OPEX-only solution, avoiding CAPEX investment for the client.

Equipment Deployed

  • 8 Mobile Degassing Units
  • Advanced Vapor Treatment Systems
  • Real-time Monitoring Equipment
  • Emergency Response Coordination Center
